Hand-Stitched

Our leather wallets are hand stitched because we believe it produces a better product.

The first reason for this method is durability. Wallets can incur a lot of wear. Our goal is to provide a product that will hold up to the rigors of every day use for many years to come. With a hand-stitched approach, each stitch locks in on itself and is independent from the others. So if a single stitch breaks, the entire seam will not unravel. Contrast this to a sewing machine where each stitch is locked to the adjacent stitch, so if one breaks, the others may unravel too.

The last reason is aesthetics. Not only do we want our products to last long, but we want them to look good! Plain and simple, a proper hand stitch will always look better than a machine stitch, especially when you incorporate French style pricking irons with twisted thread as we do.

Full Grain Leather

At Stansbury & Co, we believe the best products are made with the best materials. For this reason, we use vegetable tanned full grain leather from Horween. For Over 100 years, Horween has been producing some of the best leather in the world.

Many leather products in your local store may claim to be "genuine" leather. But this kind of leather is nothing more than plastic and left over scraps of leather bonded together. The only advantage to this leather is that it's cheap.

On the other hand, full grain is the highest quality leather grade. It typically is the most expensive because of it's superior strength and beauty. We cut our leather straight from the hide, meaning each product is unique and may vary in tone and shade from what our photos show. Because these hides have not been buffed, sanded or corrected, they may show stretch marks or scarring the animal incurred during it's life.
